The final stop on the Supercross series is held in Kingston, and it’s an event that will challenge even the most seasoned veterans. Filled with challenging rhythm sections and unique obstacles the track at Kingston Round 2 can’t be taken lightly, or you’ll be laying on your back staring up at the stadium lights. ...read more Between the riders and the holeshot, a 4th gear straight away, a small flyaway, and a sweeping first turn at the opposite end of the stadium. A good start can come from any gate with a start this wide and open; however, setting up on the exit of turn 1 is crucial. Out of turn one, the race is on into the first of six grueling rhythm sections. Riders can step onto, or over the plateau at the entrance before combining, doubles and triples around a bend to reach the off camber corner on the opposite end. If racers nail the first section right, they’ll be coming into this off camber extremely hot. Riders will be hard on the brakes to get stopped before the tuff blocks, and then fight for traction up exiting the corner back up the sloped off camber. If a rider has gotten through the off camber cleanly, he’ll step up onto the tabletop at the exit of the corner. Once landing onto the first tabletop, a choice is presented, left to step onto a another tabletop, or right to step over a single. Choose left and you’ll hop from tabletop to tabletop and then meet the end of the section; choose right and riders must click up a gear and jump an extremely challenging tabletop over a single, over an 8 foot tall pyramid jump. Not clipping the top of the peaked landing is tough, but the momentum carried is well worth the risk. Upon exiting turn three, riders might find themselves wondering if they are racing Supercross or throwing down tricks for FMX as a massive steel, freestyle kicker lip waits to be jumped. A massive landing means huge whips on this obstacle, or a chance to breathe after two brutal rhythm sections. Once done hanging from the rafters off the freestyle ramp, a charge into a tricky step on step off into an elevated corner is next. The on, off, is crucial to set riders up in the right line into the following rhythm section. Stay inside and roll out of the elevated corner into a triple triple. If you choose to go wide you’ll step off the elevated corner, triple and double into the next 90 degree corner. Exiting the 90 degree bend, the track tightens to fit into a doorway. Racers will step onto a tabletop and then off into a downhill whoops section before heading into the tunnel under the seats. Grab the brakes hard after getting through the downhill whoops or you’ll be hanging out in the wall. Carry momentum out of corner 6, get straight, and hold on. The whoops section that leads you from the hallway to outside the stadium is extremely challenging because you don’t get a lot of run into it. Riders can make up a second a lap in this section if they get into the whoops clean. Corner 7 is a long, sweeping, slightly uphill, right handed off camber. Not a more difficult corner to manage as a rider, and throttle control is key. This is an excellent passing spot, but if someone zips up the inside of you, don’t worry, as you may have the better line coming into the most difficult section on the track. The entrance to this tricky rhythm section outside is split. One the left you’ll roll the first jump and hit a steep face into a triple. One the right side you’ll work the bike over a double with a sloped backside. Finding a clean line down this rhythm will take some time, there are so many options someone could write a book about them. A set of uphill jumps round corner 8, and flows back downhill into a roller section back into the hallways. Handle the uphill whoops out of corner 9 clean and you’ll go on, off of this tabletop into the 90 degree corner 10. Just when you need a break from all the challenging rhythm sections, you are greeted with another steel FMX ramp to shoot you into the air and allow you to catch a breath. After landing the FMX jump, the fastest portion of the track opens up for some passing. A roller into a corner, and then a step up across the start straight into a corner left wide open for block passes is set up for racers. After screaming full speed back across the start, a roller tabletop in the corner sets riders into the last technical rhythm section. Get through the final rhythm section and hammer the throttle around the left handed bowl berm to head backwards up the start straight. Knowing where to set up into the next right hander is key, as the final corner is slippery and wide open for block passes. Last ditch passes are definitely common at Kingston Round 2. Get out of the last corner good and pump your fists in the air, that is one lap around the grueling Kingston Round 2 track. Grueling rhythm sections, freestyle ramps, and the brisk night air outside are certain to keep every rider on his toes. The rider to make the fewest mistakes will likely be the guy spraying champagne at the end of the night! Good luck, and I’ll see you at the gate!
